On June 6, 2007, Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Richard Cody directed transfer of foreign aviation training from the U.S. Army Threat Systems Management Office to the U.S. Army Aviation Warfighting Center, 110th Aviation Brigade at Fort Rucker, Ala. The concepts plan was staffed through USAAWC, TRADOC, HQDA and was approved on April 1, 2007.

The 3rd Battalion, 210th Aviation Regiment activated on April 27, 2007, with the specific purpose of building Afghanistan air mobility. This is the only Army battalion tasked with this mission.

The 3-210th Aviation Regt. provides bilingual flight and aviation maintenance training and education to build and bolster coalition partner, sister service and U.S. Other Government Agency aviation capacity in support of U.S. Foreign Internal Defense and Security Assistance Programs in the Global War on Terrorism. It also provides aircrews and foreign aircraft to support projected Army and Joint Testing requirements.

With the headquarters at Fort Rucker, the battalion is located at Biggs Army Airfield.
