204th Security Forces Squadron
The 204th Security Forces Squadron, Texas Air National Guard, became a host partner unit at Fort Bliss in 1981. The unit, known as the 101st Air Base Defense Squadron, was federally recognized on March 15, 1982. The Air Guard unit was the only full-time air base defense unit in the system. In March 1983, the Air Guard, located on Biggs Army Airfield, grew into one squadron and two flights of security police members. The Guardsmen saw deployments to Panama, Germany, Columbia, Honduras, Canada and various spots throughout the United States.
The unit was renamed the 204th Security Forces Squadron in 1996. It is the only heavy weapons unit in the Guard, Reserves and the active Air Force. The 204th SFS is under operational control of the 820th Security Forces Group, active duty, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. With this mission, the unit has set foot in Southwest Asia and southern Europe. Besides heavy weapons support, the 204th SFS also provides law enforcement and security capabilities.
